Which hosting companies do you support?

Below is a list of well known hosts, both supported and unsupported hosts. This list is by no means comprehensive. As a rule of thumb we cannot provide support for non-cpanel hosts.
For an optimal WPD experience, we recommend HostGator.
Please note that BlueHost and HostMonster implement a component called Ioncube differently than most, and in order for us to provide support with these hosts you need to configure your account as shown in this video: Configure Ioncube on Bluehost (or HostMonster)
WPD Supported Hosting Providers
1. Hostgator (must include DB access and without an @ in the ftp username)
2. Midphase
3. BlueHost (using Ioncube config video)
4. HostMonster (using Ioncube config video)
5. Dreamhost
6. Most "cPanel" hosts (without modified cPanels)
7. Minthost (UK based)
Hosting Providers NOT Supported
1. GoDaddy
2. 1and1
3. Powerweb
4. NetFirms
5. HostGo
6. 000webhost.com

UPDATE: If you have any questions about any cpanel hosts not on the above list, please submit a ticket. Also, we do NOT support any h-sphere hosts.

Your hosting company is supported if you can access cPanel by adding "cpanel" to the end of your domain like this:
http://www.mydomain.com/cpanel
(where "mydomain" is your domain)
http://www.mydomain.com/cpanel
(where "mydomain" is your domain)

"Hosting Providers NOT Supported" Should this read "Any other Hosting Company on the Web" perhaps?
Day 5 of trying to create a WordPressDirect blog for the 30Day Challenge. It can be done. There is a God of my understanding that tells me so.
Ok, I am going to have to find a way of creating a hosting account from the ones in your "these are the only ones we know how to do it with" list that allows me to pay monthly instead of selling my furniture to pay a full 2 years access.

Happy,
The list of Hosting Providers NOT Supported are those with which we have specifically had troubles with in the past, regardless of whether we support them or not, due to the way their control panels or server security are set up.
If your hosting company is not on either list, it is safer to assume that we do not support it, but what I would recommend is that you submit a ticket to our support staff with your host's information. They will tell you definitively whether you can set up WPD to work with your host, and to what extent we will support it.

I thought 30DC was supposed to be free...:(

I set up my domain and WP host through Godaddy, is the WP host supported on WPD?

I have been using Godaddy for a little over a year now and have all of my domain names, including ones I want to use for the 30DC, hosted on GoDaddy. SO, what does one do at this point? Do I have to go through the process of signing up for another hosting co. and move domain names to that account? Yikes. Any other solutions?

Any experience with JUSTHOST.com??? They seem to have a solid offering...

Actually paying monthly is not a good option, since it adds a curency conversion fee into the overall expense. Since my bank charges $1.65 for the privilege, that ups the fee by 15%.

What does "not supported" actually mean, anyway. That there are irreconcilable incompatibilities?

"Not supported" means that you will not be able to get WPDirect to work properly on those hosts. Even if you do install a website on one of these companies, we cannot guarantee that your site will be indexed correctly or that all of the settings will work.
We will not help you with any problems you encounter installing on those hosts. If you submit a ticket, our support staff will simply tell you that we do not support your setup.

UPDATE: If you have any problems with the IonCube loader on Dreamhost, please submit a ticket at www.wpdirect.com/support and please provide us with as much information as possible. There may be some issues with this host that we are on the process of resolving, and some extra steps may be required to properly install the IonCube loader.

I have submitted a ticket and also asked a question about my host POWWEB and neither have a response. the question is more than a week old and the ticket was submitted with a hight priority 3 days ago.

Gregory,
POWWEB does not use cpanel, they instead use control panel vDeck 3.0 interface to help you manage your account.

UPDATE: We are currently testing minthost.com and hostnine.com for our UK customers. While we have not completed testing yet, initial results are promising and we hope to add these to our Supported Host list very soon.

What about http://www.justhost.com/? Is it supported?

This is something that has just clicked with me. I started the 30DC for a .com but now I use a cpanel host in the UK for locally optimised co.uk 'everymanhosting'.
So does this mean as it's not on the list if I have a trouble you won't help resolve any issues? :(

I successfully logged in to my cpanel using CirtexHosting through http://www.mydomain.com/cpanel
Does it mean that I can use WPD without any problem?

Don,
You should be able to use WPD without any problem, but because we have not tested on that specific host, we cannot guarantee it.
Thanks,

I'd also like to know about JustHost. Is JustHost supported? Thank you.

What about media temple?

This is ridiculous - you recommend Host Gator but we can't upload to add on domains. I have used every combination possible and am still getting the FTP error. Why do you recommend a host that is difficult for the end user to navigate through.

Hi Brian
There are a few questions above about whether you support justhost, (probably because of the offer at http://bit.ly/JhostOffer ) which is the cheapest I have seen, anyway, I had a chat with the tech support and they say that with justhost you DO access your panel via "http://www.mydomain.com/cpanel" as per the answer above. So I am going to go ahead and try them, I will report back here if it does not work (they offer a refund). Cheers. JP

WTF does market samurai offer a link to godaddy if it not supported by WPD. Pretty pissed.

Market Samurai is mostly funded by affiliate commissions, they actually encourage you to sign up for the domainface ( http://bit.ly/Cheapdoms ) service which is great a way to find aged domains. Domainface gives you the lowdown on the domain market, everything from aged domains to expired domains and it lists all the relevant info you need to know like page rank, backlinks etc. It is a sad fact that GoDaddy is a big player in the domain market BUT you can use Godaddy as a registrar and just point the nameservers at another hosting company. The strongest advice you will get is to use hostgator (see link in the first post above) because it usually just works and in the event that there is a problem. GoDaddy charge you for every little thing, once you are experienced you will realise that there are better deals to be had elsewhere, but wait until you have some buying power and negotiate a price for moving all your domain registrations in return for special pricing and inclusives, either way, I never keep my registations with my hosting company or I move them after 60 days if they insist I take one. What Domainface gives you is a picture of the domain market for your given keyword, you get a view of auctions, expiring, expired and free to register names based on your search. I have picked up domains with a PR4 rating that I have managed to maintain thanks to WPD, I can then create links pointing to my money sites and I control the PR4 site, so the link juice is not split by another link. IMHO I find that there is a certain "Rip Off" factor with Godaddy, even to participate in auctiosn they hit you for $5 and when you win an auction they charge you the registration fee on top. Then they bill you for every little extra like WHOIS privacy, that is why I alway move my domains after the initial 60 days. On hosting they don't seem to offer the usual 30 day money back guarantee that everyone else seems to offer. An alternative to Godaddy for registration is namecheap http://bit.ly/CheapN
Hope this helps

I've used D9Hosting.com for a few years now and they rescued me from many problems I was having with a very awkward and unhelpful Hostgator "support" desk. They have servers in UK and the US and a wide range of options, paying monthly is one of them! I use one of their Reseller Accounts and have found their helpdesk the best I've encountered (having ditched many hosting firms who just didn't answer my questions or were so out of date they were archaic).
