If you're importing your own site, here is the link to the plugins package: http://www.wpdirect.com/downloads/WPDplugins.zip

Here is the link to the 2010 Challenge plugin package: http://www.wpdirect.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/challenge2010plugins.zip

If you came here looking for the "Make It Sticky" plugin, it is in both of the zip files above.

First, you need to download the plugins to your computer and unzip the package.

You will have to access your web directory using an FTP client. If you don't already have one, you can download Filezilla for free.

You will need to log in to the FTP client using the information on your "Website Settings" page of WPD.

Once logged in, you will need to upload the plugin folder from your computer to the plugin directory on your FTP. Here is the default directory:

public_html/wp-content/plugins/

After you've uploaded the plugin, you can activate it by visiting the Plugins panel of wp-admin.

I installed 2.8 on wpdirect.com When i click on manage posts. This keeps coming up. "have a post stay at the top of the page as you add new content to your site, click "Make it Sticky." In case you don't see the "Make it Sticky" option, You need to install the sticky plugin found at here" Then it takes me to this page.

I'm having the same problem with the 'sticky' plugin. When clicking on the link it just brings me to this page. Any suggestions or a direct link to the sticky plugin download perhaps?

So am I. What the heck is going on. I create a post, try to save it and then it disappears. Also, the categories are not populated. Frustrating.

I copied the WPD plugin zip file to my computer. Then, I unzipped it on my computer. I then transferred each of the plugins in the WPD zip file one by one to my site's plugin directory. I keep getting an error when trying to click the Import button

System Error
You have typed in the wrong account location, Try to browse the location of your domain by clicking : Browse Account location.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

George

WP direct is really antiquated. I had a horrable day just getting going. wordpress is just not for common sence person. Its says easy to use. and in EVERY situation it's always a red flag for me. IE Look out for the opposite. it is just not user friendly at all. I believe wordpress.com is a bit better. set up a blog in the site name and edit as you go. This direct thing is just to new and needs a lot of tweeking , in my oppinion after a frustrating day.

The Make It Sticky plugin is found in the above zip file called WPDplugins.zip
Check the first answer to this question.
Download that zip file.

I had the same problem. I called my hosting company, Host Gator. He verified my suspicion:

Since it's an add-on domain name - not the primary domain name - you have to "drill down" one more level - by clicking on "Browse Account Location" to the right of where you fill in the 'installation directory' on the form - to get to the "sub-folder" within 'public_html', where you should find the (sub-)folder that has the name of your add-on domain name on it.

Once you're there, once you've found that (sub-)folder, then click on "Select This ..." to the right. That will fill in the right installation directory in their form.

Assuming you have everything else on the form filled in (correctly) - and remember to select from the pull-down menu the hosting company option ('cPanel-based ... like Host gator, or one of the two hosting companies they actully list by name) - then you s/b good to go.

Just click on 'Import Site' and it should work.

If it doesn't, call your hosting company's techies .. and if it isn't Host Gator, I'd seriously consider using them. They're darned good, friendly & helpful, with 24x7 live phone help ... and they're very affordable.

Good luck!

Richard Bowen

PS Without trying to confuse things, for future reference: If you're trying to work with your primary DN - not an add-on DN - then you'd leave the Installation Directory at it's default setting ... to 'public_html'. (An Add-on DN is like 'added onto' ... or more like 'added into' ... the primary DN's folder, 'public_html')

Hello
I am also trying to import an existing blog but keep on running into the same problem over and over again. In addition I had sent a support ticket a few days ago to wpd and besides getting the automatic response from the ticket system I got no answer.
Here is the problem:
My existing blog is under the blog directory www.xyz.com/blog and is hosted by host gator under my reseller account.
I have installed all the plugin and updated them
When I try to import the existing website I get the following error message:
"System Error
You have typed in the wrong account location..."

If for the website address I type www.xyz.com instead of www.xyz.com/blog WPD imports it. Of course this is wrong since this is not the location of the blog.

I need to import the blog from its blog directory!
What to do?

Thanks Jeffrey and AskWPD!

What overwrite setting do I use? Update all, update is source is newer, or no overwrites at all?

FYI. I had a bit of trouble with the host field. I found that with HostGator, I just put my domain name in the host field and it worked fine (with another company, I had to contact the host company for their name for the group of servers that were hosting my account and put the nameofthegroupofservershostingmyaccount.nameofcompany.com in the host field)

Jeffrey, when you say "If you came here looking for the "Make It Sticky" plugin, it is in the zip file above.", we newbies have no idea what zip file above means. What do we click on, and then what do we do?

Dexter, I suggest that you choose "update if source is newer."
After you upload all of the plugins, if they are still outdated, you can upgrade them individually through the plugins page of wp-admin.

Sheri, scroll all the way back up to the top of this thread. Look at the my first answer to the question. It is highlighted in blue. There is a link in that answer. Click on that link and your browser will start downloading the zip file. After it is finished downloading, unzip the file to your computer. You will need to upload the unzipped files to your FTP server using an FTP client.

For those who are beginners, don't feel bad. I logged into my ftp site and say all the pluggins there. I even download the zip file and uploaded those versions of the pluggins over top of the versions that the WPD install button did. I disabled and activated and the make it stick button still doesn't show up on my first post. I tried new spots and the make it sticky isn't visible even though the install is complete and I can see the files on my ftp site..

Hey, Ask.WPD... Should't your statement "...default directory: public_html/wp-content/plugins/"

read as follows?...

default directory: "public_html/(your-blog-domain+directory)/wp-content/plugins/"

... that's where I found mine.

Obviously I dun see the issue of: "System Error - You have typed in the wrong account location..." being addressed by the tech support staff promptly? So many people posted here with the prob but no solution. No matter how and what I tried to input into the "select location" for FTP, WPD just could not detect the existing configuration properly! So this feature is useless, huh?

Hope somebody can prove me wrong.

Anyone here can direct me to a simple step by step of importing an existing blog (installed in root) to my WPD account so I can utilize the posting softwares on this blog. The discussion on this thread is quite vague and not sure if the instructions are updated...

Thanks,
DanNy

Can you post some screen shots for a complete novice at this? I don't understand what FTP means and I've downloaded Filezilla and the WPD plugins so what next?

The import website has so little information and very confusing, unless you are very technique. I have only just signed up for my trial which will convert to paid monthly but even on the first day with total frustration, sorry I am at that point of opting out. I dont have the time to fuss about looking for answers. I signed up on the proviso that this is a straightforward solution for my blog and its turning out to be a nightmare. I have written to help desk for support and still not received any answers.

I managed to get a site in. I found out that the ftp user name and password for me was the one for my hosting site, not the ftp setup for the site. Type the name of your website after the public_html/ part and it should import. Let me know how it is going and maybe I can help you.

You can also upload the plugins by going to the my files section of your WPDirect dashbard.
Upload the zip file into the my plugins section.

This is hugely frustrating. I've manually added the plugins one by one into almost every directory and they still don't work. The most annoying part of this is that a hostgator rep started my Word Press account without me asking to so I have had to import the lot instead of using WPDirect. Can anyone help me?

I uploaded the zip file to my site no problem, but when I unzip it, it extracts all the files into another folder INSIDE my plugin folder. Is that right??
