New install doesn't install blog properly, not all files installed!

I am trying to install a new WPDirect blog. I have folowed the instructions just as shown in the 30 day challenge. I am using Hostgator for hosting and have entered al of the correct details, checked the details and everything lots and lots and they

• hostgator
• install
• wp-admin

WPD not recognizing Hostgator FTP Usernames.

I am attempting to upload my website but in Step 2 the system bogs down as it won't recognize the Hostgator FTP Username because the name contains an "@" symbol in it. Any suggestions as to how I can get around this?
